Unlike many marine artists I neither grew up on the coast or around fishing. I was a city kid from South Arlington, Virginia.
Art has always fascinated me. Nature has always fascinated me. My drawings, paintings and sculptures were studies of animals, plants and of course horses. I studied fine art at the Corcoran school of art in Washington DC. After school I moved to Tidewater (the coast).
My first real job as an illustrator was also my introduction to sport fishing. I had a lot to learn so I dove right in. Lucky for me ODU had a great oceanography library that offered in depth knowledge on all the sport fish.
I have never known the thrill of seeing a wild marlin, but I have had the beJesus scared out of me by giant barracuda.
I’m not much of a fisherman but I do love to dive.
